A GREEN INDUSTRY

A GREEN INDUSTRY Energy savings, water treatment, clean gas: the new Oran plant is fully equipped to meet the highest environmental standards. The Hassi Ben Okba industrial and domestic water treatment plant, built by a renowned manufacturer, is already operational. It includes a sludge treatment and dewatering facility for reuse in agriculture. On the energy-saving front, the plant is in the process of implementing a solar lighting project, with a view to future extensions to power support and production facilities. The plant has also acquired a tank to convert its boiler fuel from diesel to propane, which is less polluting. It is also experimenting with two electric forklift-trucks, with a view to rolling them out to the entire shipping and receiving fleet. All these operations are carried out with a view to saving energy and using clean energy. As a pilot plant, Oran is designed to serve as a benchmark for its counterparts in Akbou and Sétif, and as a company profile tending towards the notion of a green industry that operates without harming natural ecosystems and human health. The processing machines are based on low-energy technology, requiring less mechanical friction, using fewer lubricants and thus generating less pollution and less waste.

The machine, the only one of its kind in Algeria, is equipped with an automatic inking and washing system that reduces ink loss by 5 times and wastewater discharge by 3 times. Using less ink and less water, the solution reflects Général Emballage’s commitment to the environment and its strategy of innovation.
